Hello, I'm Jake. Originally from the UK (and now living in the Netherlands), I'm a mobile application developer and programmer. In general I want to help people, and I do this in areas where I have particular expertise in - one of these areas happens to be travel. A large number of app categories are dominated by badly designed and slow apps which don't provide a great user interface - I'm going to change that.
Below you will find my employment history as well as the education I have graduated with. If you would like any additional information, please visit my LinkedIn page or feel free to use the contact us form at the bottom of this website.
I am the director of jRustonApps BV, an iOS and Android application company. Starting in 2012, we have released many applications including My Hurricane Tracker, used by companies and individuals around the world to monitor incoming storms, and My Earthquake Alerts, an app used by millions to find more information about ongoing earthquake activity.
I had a summer internship at Aviva, the largest insurance provider in the UK, as a mobile application developer. I worked on their Aviva Drive and MyAviva applications for Android and iOS using Xamarin and C#, including Objective-C. With this, I participated in agile development and working in teams.
I founded a web hosting review website called Xeromi, which included detailed reviews of hosting providers and included affiliate links which generated commissions when users signed up to them. Using the SEO skills I had acquired it gained significant rankings until I sold the site.
I was an SEO freelancer for approximately two years. I found SEO techniques which were very effective for improving Google rankings, which I sold as a service to local businesses as well as international firms to boost their visibility on the web.
I studied for an MComp qualification at UEA. My focus was on software engineering and programming modules, including producing a VoIP system, a mathematical graphing application with a plugin architecture and several mobile applications. I graduated with a first class honours degree.
For my A level courses I studied Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics and achieved A*, A and B respectively. By studying these courses it gave me a greater understanding of how to operate a business, which has given me better skills to run companies such as jRustonApps. It has also helped with my degree.
Whilst at secondary school I studied a variety of subjects including core modules such as Mathematics and English as well as ICT, Spanish and History. These gave me numerous skills which I have applied, including ICT which helped to increase my motivation for further study in that area.
